MMPN Detroit Scholarship Award

Criteria for Selection

Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses – Detroit is accepting applications for the MMPN Detroit Scholarship Award from junior and senior nursing students.

Criteria:

  1. Must be African-American.
  2. Currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing (RN)
  3. Must be in the junior or senior year of the nursing program.
  4. Cumulative grade point average of 3.0, with 3.0 or above in at least two nursing courses.               
  1. Two letters of reference: one professional and one personal
  2. Must be a resident of the Detroit metropolitan area.
  3. Evidence of your productive leadership in the nursing program.
  4. Attend a personal interview by the MMPN Scholarship Committee.
  5. Attend a Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses meeting, and the scholarship breakfast to receive the award.
  1.  Accountable to the Scholarship Committee by providing semester grades, graduation transcript, and NCLEX-RN results.
  1.  Become an active member upon passing the NCLEX-RN exam.             

    1st year of dues and assessments in the amount of $150 are included in the award and will apply when RN licensure is acquired.

To be included in the application packet: a resume, reference letters, current official transcript and a narrative that addresses the criteria for the scholarship. Narrative to include how joining MMPN will impact your leadership and career path. Incorporate your research from the Internet literature regarding the history of Mary Mahoney.

Olivian DeSouza Community Leadership Award Criteria

“To Serve Humanity”

The Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses – Detroit will award this distinguished award to a junior or senior level nursing student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and service in the community, as well as, maintaining academic requirements in their respective nursing program.

 

  1. Must be African-American.
  2. Currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing (RN)
  3. Must be in the junior or senior year of the nursing program.
  4. Cumulative grade point average of 3.0, with 3.0 or above in at least 2 nursing courses.
  1. Resident of the metro Detroit area.
  2. Evidence of leadership and volunteer service to the community.
  3. The act(s) of leadership and volunteer service do not have to be directly related to nursing. Applicant does not have to be a scholarship candidate.
  1. Letter from the community service organization (must be on the organization’s letterhead)
  1. Attend a personal interview by the MMPN Scholarship Committee.
  2. Attend a Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses meeting/scholarship awards ceremony.
  3. Become an active member upon passing the NCLEX-RN exam.

Narrative to include detailed description of your volunteer service to the community and how joining MMPN will impact your leadership and career path. Submit research on the history of Mary Mahoney.
